knives the filmmaker

It's a story I will tell over and over and over again until the day I die.
It was summer 2004, my mom called me and asked me what movie I wanted from the video store. I sed whatever is new and looks interesting.
She came back with a fresh copy of Kill Bill vol 1 on VHS. Oh yeah I had heard about that, looked funny. Quentin Tarantino? I remember that guy from Celebrity Death-match.
I popped the VHS. MIRAMAX FILMS. SHAW SCOPE. OUR FEATURE PRESENTATION. Black title card that had a old Klingon Proverb that read 'Revenge is a dinner best served cold'.
Uma on the ground in black and white. Bill shoots The Bride in the head before she can say the words 'Bill, it's your baby.' BANG!
Cut to the title card: The 4th Film by Quentin Tarantino. I was 16 years old and I realized I was a filmmaker. Kill Bill was my self actualization.

Everything since then has been a Hail Mary attempt at that level of dopeness.

It started out as a fantasy.

My first feature film. My first attempt at anything really. It was 2012 and I was full of ambition and caffeine and I suffocated every excuse I had to make this indie no budge film.

I’m proud of the 24 year old who made this film.

It screened once upon a time to 400 people ONE NIGHT ONLY in Mission, TX.

Shot on a Canon T2i, made on a budget of hotdogs and handshakes. I present to you, Her Doppelganger.

I was homeless for 42 days and this is what I learned…

I watched Minding The Gap, was inspired to tell my own autobiographical documentary about the SIX WEEKS ON SIXTH STREET.

Made infamous amongst the Knives Monroe origin story.

Shot during the height of the 2020 pandemic.
